"Infected" is a musically happy record, against a setting of substantially more genuine things: the murkiness of the Thatcher and Reagan years, of which Johnson paints an unobtrusive yet merciless picture in his verses. More pontificant and illusory than any other time in recent memory, the artist lands on this collection as a commendable replacement to Ray Davies as far as depicting a crappy society by placating himself with delivering rigorously radio pop.
