Best-selling record, The Good Book is a collection of spirituals that Louis Armstrong recorded in February 1958. It was not the first time that Louis looked at one of the main sources of African-American music, but Armstrong had never devoted an entire album to songs of religious inspiration. Benefiting from splendid arrangements by King Oliver, surrounded by his usual formation but also by an organist and a group of ten singers, the trumpeter, touched by grace, majestically takes up these hymns which refer abundantly to the Old Testament and which had spoken so much to his people, long slaves as the Hebrews were in Egypt.
