"In 1985, at the JBZ studio in Abidjan, political cartoonist Jess Sah Bi and history student Peter One recorded a seventies-stamped pacifist country-folk album, yet rooted in local folklore and African political news. The album circulated only in pirate copies among Ivorians, the success of Jess Sah Bi and Peter One allowed them at one time to fill stadiums as far as Togo. The song African Chant was even broadcast by the BBC on the day Nelson Mandela was released. Caught up in their youth by the western songs, picked up on the radio, of Dolly Parton, Simon & Garfunkel or Cat Stevens, Jess Sah Bi and Peter One not only blurred the borders of the great plains of Africa and America but, later took root in the United States themselves." Libération, september 2018.
