Fawzy Al-Aiedy grew up in Iraq but moved to Paris when he was in his early 20s. The title, Paris Bagdad, acknowledges the singer's French citizenship as well as his Iraqi upbringing. This is a very traditional recording -- selections like "Zourouni," "Naima" and "Dana Dina" find Al-Aiedy putting music to traditional Iraqi or Egyptian texts. Al-Aiedy is not only an expressive and convincing vocalist; he's also a solid oud player.
